🕊️ Public Lecture and Workshop on Human Rights
In response to the Iran–Israel war, which began on June 13, 2025, NGO HOPE is launching this initiative in collaboration with Project Lili / Life in Light – Human Rights. This project seeks to provide both emotional and educational support during this time of acute crisis. It is especially intended for those who are experiencing grief, fear for their families, and a sense of isolation.
Rather than remaining alone at home with these burdens, participants are invited to join a safe and respectful group setting where collective reflection, dialogue, and empowerment can take place. The workshops offer an opportunity not only for shared emotional resilience, but also for active political learning and civic participation.
By fostering democratic values, inclusivity, and intercultural understanding, this initiative offers a constructive response to increasing polarization and radicalization. Participants will engage with fundamental questions of human rights, democracy, and global justice, guided by renowned scholars in the field.
To ensure accessibility for individuals with language barriers, the workshops will include interpretation:
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alice Pechriggl’s workshop will be interpreted into Farsi/Dari by Zahra Ghobadi, BEd., B.A.

📌 Which Democracy Best Realizes Human Rights?
📅 Date: 01.07.2025
⏰ Time: 5:00 - 8:15 PM
📍 Venue: Alps Adriatic University, Klagenfurt / Celovec, Z.1.09
For decades, scholars have analyzed the erosion of democratic regimes through permanent representation, oligarchization, and capitalist exploitation. The human rights established through democratic revolutions since the 18th century are now under scrutiny. This lecture and workshop will explore the complex relationship between democracy and human rights—how they reinforce or restrict each other, where political-democratic principles conflict with ethical-human rights values (freedom, equality, justice), and the role of the rule of law in mediating these tensions. The session will provide insights into tackling the current crises facing liberal democratic systems.
